Monotype series, creating a framework for an artistic practice.

Monotype and collage experiement nr. 5 - detail.

Post master studies I found myself a bit lost. I follow a curious creative path, and then I start the next, unable to complete the first one. I feel like I create a hundred different directions all at once. It is overwhelming and confusing. In this project I therefore try to set a temporary frame to “tame” my curiosity.

After a 3 day free course with the amazing print artist Ruth Ander, I am given some great new ways of looking at my pile of monotype experiments from this year. I crop the parts that feel like it has “someting”. A free line, a good color, an intriguing texture. I then add another layer of print, or I put interesting crops together with others creating finished collage pieces. So far I have created 5 uniques works. My failed prints has become a pile of potential collages! What a powerful shift, from failure to potential! It allows me to use material I have, to work fast and not too precious, and to allow for the unexpected. When I start being a perfectionist with little details, I just glue the pieces on, and move on to the next piece. Onwards and upwards, nothing to loose, new experiences to gain.

I decide to follow one of my paths. Will something interresting happen? Can i stop overthinking each piece and start to see patterns? Will a style emerge?
